Aftercare advice for colonic hydrotherapy patients
You should feel relaxed after colonic hydrotherapy treatment and not experience
any unwanted side-effects: Here are a few essential guidelines:
- Follow any specific advice on diet, supplements, or exercise, given to you by your
practitioner.
- Don't overeat. Eat lightly cooked or raw food, and chew well. A diet rich in fruit
and vegetables (especially leafy) will add to the cleansing effect and help to regulate
your bowels.
- Alternate red meat (beef, lamb, pork and game) with white meat and fish, but always
stay within the guidelines for your blood-type.
- Eat only whole grains, e.g. brown rice, wholemeal flour, NOT refined e.g. white
flour products, pasta.
- If necessary, avoid mucus-forming foods like grains, cereals, soya, and dairy products.
- Some water is absorbed during the colonic treatment, and you may notice an increased
need to urinate; this will subside quickly.
- Drink plenty of fluids. Don't drink with meals or for 30 minutes before or 1 hour
after meals. Avoid alcohol.
- If your digestion is weak, eat proteins and starches at separate meals.
- You may experience some flatulence and bowel sounds; Probiotic supplements should
be taken regularly for a few weeks.
- If griping occurs, drink hot Peppermint, Fennel or Chamomile infusions; avoid cold
drinks, carbonated drinks and gas forming foods.
- Don't expect a bowel movement the next day; depending upon your condition, it may
take several days for normal bowel movements to resume. As your diet improves and
your bowel muscle strengthens, the delay between eating and bowel emptying will
shorten.
- Avoid rigorous exercise and weight lifting for 24 hours after treatment.
